cognito is a template-based CMS designed for ease of use while allowing as much flexibility as possible. It features real HTML file templates, unlimited content areas, content management on-page, dynamic content (polls, RSS, etc.) via plugins, and time-based publishing.

Release focus: Major feature enhancements

Changes:
A web-based installation was added. The capability to create forms on the site was added. Unlimited menu levels were implemented, with a tree-like appearance. New pages are inserted at the current page and at the same menu level, rather than at the bottom of the list at the top level. Moving menu items around also takes child pages into consideration.

re flexibility: did you look at TYPO3 or Drupal? Maybe joining an already-established project is not so glorious as starting your own but it's definitely suspect to be *far* more productive. :-)

I have tried both. I found drupal to be too limiting in its templates, and typo3 to be slow and cumbersome. I also tried many others listed at opensourcecms, and just had to write my own to overcome the limitations with templates. Cognito is designed especially for web designers that want their sites to look the way they want, with the flexibility of managing the content in a user-friendly way.

Well I'm afraid that by maturing time of yet another CMS it will be funny to remember drag-slow P4/AMD64s :)

Regarding cumbersome, it's either powerful and simple maybe in concept but not in all of its glory (tm), or usable for one's personal projects to be simple enough in general.

Getting people to help with code ruins the latter model in a month...

And web designers shouldn't worry about technical things like establishing site engine: they should worry about templates -- these are quite different tasks asking for quite different skills which are rare to combine.

Maybe look at TYPO3 3.8.0-dev and specifically "one-minute website" article? Fixing mature product without harsh design faults is more productive than rolling one's own...
