Typically around 6GB for a full install but you can skinny that down easily by just installing only what you need.

If you look at the Slackware-HOWTO you'll see a section "3. Slackware Space Requirements" that has approximate space required for each set.

[»] 10.1
by Sébastien Boisvert - Mar 22nd 2005 18:47:14

I am under slackware 10.0 since december 2003. I was introduced to linux with Red Hat 9, I have used this distro for 6 month, than I have installed myself the holy slackware 10. I will soon install the great 10.1. Thank you mister Patrick Volkerding for making such a great distribution.

If it it'S not stable, it's not slackware!!!

Hey! What about updates? Slackware 10 has been released more than one month ago and you still say that the 9.1 is the current one?!

'cos it's not project of mine :) maybe I'm a bit lazy, but I see no reason for caring about others' projects

    It's mid-Q1, 2005 now, more than a year and a half
since the last msg here. So here's mine:

    Slackware-10.1 (and ISO) are available.
    I've been a Slackware-User since 1994; I flirted
with others, sure, but i went back.

The answer to the oft-asked "which is the best
distro to use?" I can only reply, "It's the one
that you know best!" I know Slackware - to install
it blind-folded, with two arms behind my back and a
dead kbd! :) Oh, and while I sleep too.

Looking for a distro? Try Slackware, you have
nothing to lose but your old distro. (save your
unique files first!) And as Pat signs all his
notes to us who read them: "Enjoy!"

Tried the other distros - Redhat, SUSE, Mandrake etc. Only Slackware could keep me. Easy to install, powerful, flexible, lean and fast! Big thanks to Patrick Volkerding for creating and maintaining this distro - you are THE MAN!!

[»] Just Slack It !
by fru - Sep 5th 2002 16:44:49

After trying some distros, I ever come back to this good old slackware. The first time I used Slackware (and linux at all), it was a 3.1 version, and I still have this good feeling of stability and security RH never provides (Last version of a software is not always the best one).

[»] Slackware 8.1 - Buy it or download the ISO
by Neil Mansilla - Jul 10th 2002 09:04:15

You may or may not have known this, but you can download Slackware from Slackware.com (or one of its mirror sites) in ISO format -- so if your connection allows your patience to sustain a 600+ MB download, you can burn a copy from your own home/office. However, over at the Slackware Store, you can buy the entire 4-CD set.

I just downloaded the Slackware 8.1 ISO last week, and installed it on a quad-Xeon it went beautifully - even supports ext3, ReiserFS, JFS and XFS file systems.

After all these years, I've been tempted, and have even given in to trying other distros, but man, there's something about Slackware that I just trust in the production environment. :-)

[»] other glibc distros
by meshuga - Apr 21st 1999 11:05:44

another distro to keep in mind is http://www.stampede.org.
reason why i use and enjoy stampede is its actually slackware
based, but takes a few good traits from RH, like packaging
for instance. It uses almost all updated libs, and its glibc
and 2.2.x based, but it is still in beta stages, but
i've been running it for months without a problem. your
milage may vary.

[»] Slackware is now GLibC2 based
    by Michael D. Crawford - Jul 1st 2001 12:55:02

Note the above comments are a couple of years old, Slackware (now at version 8.0) has been glibc2 based for a couple of releases.

by freax - Apr 8th 1999 16:56:08

I know that i would like to have glibc2 on my linux, but Patrick Volkerding thaught that this new glibc is in a beta stage, so it is some "dangerous" to put in the new distribution. So, I understand him ... but he will do this in slackware 4.1 soon ;)

[»] glibc2
by karellen - Apr 8th 1999 09:34:18

Slackware is a very good distribution that anyone can use (from newbies to developers). Too bad it's not glibc2 based (yet). I had to switch to Debian 2.x because I wanted glibc2 so bad. I'm very happy with it but I would *still* like a glibc2 based Slackware to install on my other machines. Also, Slackware was my first Linux distribution -- 1.2.13 kernel =;P
